CBSE said on Friday that it had not taken any decision on the CBSE Class 12 board exams 2021 yet. As many still wait for the CBSE date sheet 2021, students have been calling for a cancellation of the exams in view of the current Covid-19 situation.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced on Friday that it had not taken a decision yet on the CBSE Class 12 board exams 2021. Even as many wait for the CBSE date sheet 2021, thousands of students and parents have been pushing for the cancellation of the CBSE 12th board exams in light of the current Covid-19 situation.
“It is clarified that no such decision (cancellation of exams) has been taken regarding class 12 board examination, as being speculated. Any decision taken in this matter will be officially communicated to the public,” a senior CBSE official said as per PTI.
The official was responding to a query regarding whether the CBSE Class 12 board exams 2021 may be cancelled.
Possibility of CBSE Class 12 board exams being cancelled
Meanwhile, a senior education ministry official told TOI that the CBSE 12th board exams may be scrapped and CSBE would review the situation and “probably would have to work out an alternative assessment scheme for the Class 12 students.”
CBSE board exams 2021 postponed
After a long wait, on April 14, CBSE announced the decision to cancel the CBSE 10th board exams 2021 and postpone the CBSE Class 12 board exams after a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This year, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the CBSE board exams which are conducted in February-March every year were scheduled to be held from May 4.
However, the sudden surge in Covid-19 cases in the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic made CBSE rethink the situation and decide to review the chance conducting the CBSE Class 12 board exams 2021 after June 1. The board said that students would get a 15-day notice period before the exams were conducted.
CBSE 10th board exam marking policy announced
Earlier in May, CBSE announced the alternative marking and assessment scheme for the CBSE Class 10 students whose board exams were cancelled due to Covid-19.
As per the policy, while 20 marks for each subject will be for internal assessment as every year, 80 marks will be calculated on basis of the students’ performance in various tests or exams throughout the year.
Schools shutting down again
After the dip in Covid-19 cases at the end of last year, schools had started to reopen from October 2020. They had been closed for physical classes since March 2020 due to the pandemic and the national lockdown.
However, physical classes have been suspended in most states again due to the rise of cases in the second wave of the pandemic.
Last year, the CBSE board exams had to be postponed mid-way in March. They were later cancelled and the results were announced based on an alternative assessment scheme.
